The phenomenon is spreading and accounts for about 20-25% of the drug market in Côte d'Ivoire, according to Parfait Kouassi, who chaired the National Order of Pharmacists in Côte d'Ivoire from 2005 to 2012. Meanwhile, about 30% of drugs sold in Kenya in 2012 were counterfeit, according to the Pharmacy and Poisons Board of Kenya.
