Antwerp Sees 1.4% Increase In Cargo Throughput
News: Belgium's port of Antwerp registered a 1.4% year-on-year (y-o-y) rise in cargo throughput, to 46.9mn tonnes, in Q113, mainly driven by strong growth in liquid bulk. The volume of liquid bulk reached 14.2mn tonnes, up 37.4% y-o-y. However, dry bulk fell 33.2% to 3.5mn tonnes. Container throughput dropped by 2.8% to 2.12mn twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), from 2.18mn TEUs in Q112. Meanwhile, 2.64mn tonnes of freight was loaded or unloaded in the conventional breakbulk sector in Q113, up by 4.4% y-o-y. The ro/ro volume slipped marginally, by 0.5% to 1.19mn tonnes. The number of seagoing ships arriving at the port was 3,587, down by 1.2% y-o-y.
